St. Clair County has a major problem for some people who reside here. People constantly burn leaves.

It is not the fact that people are burning leaves; it is where these people are doing it. People throughout St. Clair County burn their leaves in the streets.

My neighborhood is especially bad at doing this. When I drive down the streets through my neighborhood, I see many burning piles there, most of them unattended. Sometimes, I even have to drive through them because of cars parked on the opposite side of the street.

It is illegal in St. Clair County to burn in the streets, yet the sheriff's department has done nothing to stop this. I have seen a sheriff drive through my neighborhood numerous times and not say or do anything to stop them.

The smoke from the burning leaves makes visibility poor. The visibility has gotten bad enough that a person cannot see if anyone is on the street in front of them.

If the leaves were burned in the yards like they should be, the smoke would have more time to dissipate and visibility would improve.

St. Clair County needs to crack down on this problem before it gets worse.
