Political satire is an honored tradition

Published: November 22, 2012

Glenn McCoy's political satire cartoons are right on point.

His cartoons continue the tradition that goes back to the beginning of the United States. Readers should appreciate McCoy's sharp wit. Those people thinking he only focuses on President Obama should look at his works on "W."

During the Civil War President Lincoln was routinely lampooned. The book, "Lincoln in Caricature," provides excellent examples of Lincoln cartoons.

Freedom of speech is an important part of life in the U.S., without which we might as well have Vladimir Putin as president.
