FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS — Police officers will conduct a sting Friday and Saturday at St. Clair Square Mall to ensure shoppers aren't abusing disability parking spots, according to Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White.
Officers will work to enforce the disability parking program to curb the abuse of disability placards and license plates during the holiday season.
The fine for parking in disability parking spaces can be as much $350. A fine of $500 and a possible license suspension is what violators will face for illegally using a placard or disability license plates to park in a disability parking space without the authorized holder of the placard or disability license plates present.
White urged people to report abuse of accessible parking spaces by calling 217-785-0309 or visit the Secretary of State's website at www.cyberdriveillinois.com and complete the Parking Program for Persons with Disabilities Abuse Complaint Form.
