BELLEVILLE — Anyone who has ideas for Belleville's bicentennial celebration in 2014 is encouraged to attend a meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lindenwood University in Belleville.
Since midsummer, a 27-member steering committee has been laying the groundwork for the 200th birthday bash, including designing a logo and outlining a calendar of events.
But the committee is looking for plenty of additional help from city residents, said Debbie Belleville, manager of operations for the Parks and Recreation Department. So, whether you have ideas for the yearlong gala or would like to get involved as a volunteer, you're asked to attend Wednesday's roundtable discussion in the Belleville High School District 201 board room.
In 1989, the city staged a parade, concerts, festival and store with city memorabilia to mark its 175th anniversary. For its sesquicentennial in 1964, organizers published a book detailing Belleville's history. Mayor Mark Eckert expects the city to do much of that and possibly more in 2014, but it is looking for public response.
If you have questions or would like to participate but cannot attend the meeting, call Rebecca Boyer at 910-2538 (bboyer@kaskaskiaeng.com) or Debbie Belleville at 233-1416 (dbelleville@belleville.net).
