An 18-year-old Swansea man flipped his car Monday morning in Belleville after falling asleep at the wheel.

Justin B. Dancy of Swansea was driving a 2003 Mercedes west on West Boulevard when he veered off the roadway and struck a power pole breaking it in half, according to the traffic crash report. The vehicle landed on its top and caught fire.

St. Clair County Sheriff's Department responded to the accident at about 10 a.m. Monday.

Dancy told police, "I fell asleep."

He refused medical treatment and was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
