The Alorton Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run accident Sunday that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

Kathrine Knight, 53, of East St. Louis, was struck and killed on Illinois 15 sometime before 5:15 a.m. Sunday.

Alorton police responded to a report of a woman down at Pocket Road and Illinois 15. When officers arrived, they discovered the body of a female lying in the eastbound lane of Route 15.

The Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction team was notified and processed the scene.
