Grizzlies sign add infielder

SAUGET -- The Gateway Grizzlies have improved their infield depth with the signing of Nate Wilder.

Wilder, 22, comes to Gateway after spending the 2012 season with the Lincoln Saltdogs of the American Association. The Lincoln, Neb., native batted .162 in 36 games with the Saltdogs, collecting three home runs and seven RBI. In his final two games of the 2012 season with Lincoln, Wilder drilled two home runs and drove in five runs.

"We're excited to add Nate to our team and expect him to come in and contribute for us in May," Grizzlies manager Phil Warren said. "He's young and versatile with some good years ahead of him."

Grizzlies hitting coach Mike Breyman said the club wanted Wilder.

"Nate was recommended to us by his former teammate in Lincoln, Stephen Holdren (who played at Gateway from 2007-2009)," Breyman said. "We wanted him last year, but didn't have room for him so we are happy to add him to our spring training roster for 2013."

Wilder, a left-handed batter, played his college baseball at Division II Arkansas Tech, finishing up his collegiate career in May 2012. He hit .295 with ten home runs and 53 RBI during his senior season with Arkansas Tech. Wilder hit 20 home runs in two seasons for the Wonder Boys, tying him for seventh all-time at the school.
