Police who went to check on the well-being of a Washington Park resident Wednesday found a murder victim inside his home, according to Illinois State Police.
Family members of a 48-year-old resident at 2220 N. 52nd St. asked police to check on his well-being. Officers who went there Wednesday evening found a dead man in the home, possibly the resident of the home, said ISP Lt. Dave Wasmuth.
"When police entered the house they discovered the body of a male black who had been dead for several days," Wasmuth said. "Evidence at the scene indicates the victim was murdered. The identity of the victim has not been confirmed, but may be the 48-year-old resident."
Police did not elaborate on why they had been requested to check on the well-being of the resident.
An autopsy was scheduled to be conducted Thursday. Police asked that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at (866) 371-TIPS or ISP Special Agent Elbert Jennings at 346-3765.
