Run, run, as fast as you can: Sign up for Saturday's Gingerbread 5K in Belleville

Published: November 29, 2012

Hundreds of runners and walkers will hit the streets of downtown Belleville Saturday morning for the 2012 5K Gingerbread Run.

There's still time to register online at www.gingerbreadrun.com or in person at Belleville Parks and Rec Department, 510 West Main Street.

In-person registration and packet pick-up will beuntil 6 p.m. Thursday and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the department. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. Saturday in the Centennial Room at St. Elizabeth's Hospital.

The race begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in front of St. Elizabeth's.

Some roads will be closed to traffic during the race, so drivers should watch for detours or delays.

An after-race presentation at the Lincoln Theater will feature something new this year: Racers crossing the finish line will be shown on the big screen in preparation for the awards ceremony.

"We thought that would be interesting for people to look at," explained Angel Edson, of Parks and Recreation Department.

Awards will be given to the top three finishers in various age divisions.

In addition, the Belleville Triple Crown will be awarded to athletes who completed the Law Day 5K Run and the Tour de Belleville, in addition to the Gingerbread 5K.

The weather should cooperate with runners. Saturday is predicted to be cloudy and mild with a high in the mid 60s and a low in the 50s, according to the National Weather Service.
