East St. Louis firefighters tried to handle a warehouse fire Friday afternoon that generated clouds of black smoke. The warehouse at 919 Lynch contained mattresses, furniture such as couches and lots of upholstery materials. Burning foam rubber caused thick, black smoke that was visible for miles. Firefighters got the call about 2:30 p.m. Friday.
