House of Hunan in O'Fallon reopens

Sonny and Carla Diep are reopening House of Hunan in O'Fallon Monday. The couple had temporarily closed the Chinese restaurant at 200 Southview Plaza, Suite 18, as Sonny underwent hip replacement surgery. Today, Sonny is doing well, and you can call him at 632-3322 to place your order.

Livrite Fitness has opened a new 24-hour health club in Fairview Heights.

The new locale, at 5900 N. Illinois St., Suite 1, is where Fitness 24 and The Boxing Gym once operated. The new health club offers a range of fitness opportunities, includes Zumba exercise classes and martial arts training and instruction.

A new ski and outdoor wear retailer in Fairview Heights could open as this week. Alpine Shop is leasing 9,600 square feet of space at 1855 W. U.S. 50 next to Ambassador Flooring Co. Opening day may be as soon as this Friday. Stay tuned.

Eckert Florist was awarded for displaying the best holiday window decorations, according to the most recent Belleville Main Street Organization contest.

Eckert Florist, 201 West Main St., won first place in the 2012 Downtown Belleville Window Decorating Contest.

Eye on Design, 309 East Main St., won second place. Third place went down to a tie between Papa Vito's, 318 East Washington St., and CeLeen Gallery and Gifts, 325 East Main Street.

And finally, construction-management firm Impact Strategies LLC of Fairview Heights has been hired to build an off-campus student housing development in Edwardsville. Plans for the new $35 million Enclave West were announced last summer. The new student housing complex will be built adjacent to Southern Illinois University Edwardsville at the intersection of New Poag Road and Northwest University Drive. It is scheduled to open by August 2013. This follows the success of the first Enclave project, a $20 million student housing development, located off Illinois 157 and less than two miles from campus that opened to students last fall. Enclave West will come furnished and provide tenants with a choice between two- and four-bedroom apartments with open-floor plans.
