Granite City woman charged in fatal hit-and-run

A 23-year-old Granite City woman was charged Monday in connection with the hit-and-run death of Shari L. Watts of East Alton.

Gabrielle Parent of the 2900 block of Morgan Avenue was charged with failure to report an accident involving a death, a class 1 felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison and a fine up to $25,000.

The body of Watts, 50, was found along the northbound lanes of Illinois 3, just south of Niedringhaus Avenue, shortly after 7 a.m. Saturday.

Parent remained in custody Monday afternoon at the Granite City Police Department, pending transfer to the Madison County Jail. Her bond was set of $30,000.
