Nationals sign former Cardinals RHP Dan Haren

Published: December 4, 2012

— The Nationals have signed former Cardinals started Dan Haren to a one-year, $13-million contract, according to a Fox Sports report.

Haren was with the Angels last season and had his team option declined after a mediocre year with a 12-13 record and a 4.33 ERA. Over the course of his career with the Cardinals, Athletics, Diamondbacks and Angels, Haren is 119-97 with a 3.66 ERA.

While he has been one of the best pitchers in baseball, there is some speculation that Haren's down 2012 was due to an injury which resulted in the 32-year-old hurler having to accept a one-year contract.

If Haren is healthy, he'll give Washington and extremely formidable top of the rotation along with Stephen Strasburg and Gio Gonzalez.
