GRANITE CITY — A child was transported to an area hospital following an accident Tuesday afternoon in Granite City.
According to police, an elderly woman was parking in a handicap spot about 4 p.m. Tuesday at Walgreens located in the 3700 block of Nameoki, and she pressed the gas instead of the brake.
Lt. Richard Werths said three small children were struck by a table the car hit, but they were not hit by the car. The children were selling peanut brittle as a fundraiser for a local church on the sidewalk outside the entrance of the Walgreens.
"No one was seriously injured," Werths said.
A girl was transported to the hospital as a precaution, according to police. She is 10 and the other two children are boys, ages 4 and 5, according to media reports.
The name of the driver was not released.
