EDWARDSVILLE — The Southern Illinois University Edwardsville women's basketball team will host Sacramento State at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Vadalabene Center.
SIUE (4-4) meets the Hornets (4-2) for the second time. Sacramento State defeated SIUE 80-66 last season in Sacramento.
The Hornets enter Wednesday's game with a four-game winning streak. That includes an 80-71 overtime victory against Oregon State. The Hornets picked up a career high 39 points from Se'nyce Parrish in that contest.
Senior Raven Berry, a Collinsville graduate, was named to the All-Tournament team for the second straight week. She averaged 8.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game at the Glass City Tournament. She leads the team in scoring with a 12.6 average.
The Cougars opened the Glass City Tournament with a 59-43 loss to Toledo before defeating Southern 55-53 in the consolation game of the event.
SIUE defeated its first team of the season from a "power conference." The Cougars upended Clemson, of the ACC, 49-43 in the consolation game of the SMU Hoops for the Cure Classic in Dallas. Berry's 25 points against Clemson marked the 10th time she has scored 20 or more in a game. The Cougars lost 64-46 in the first game of the tourney to SMU.
Berry, who leads the team in scoring with an 8.4 points average per game, had 12 double-doubles last season. She is poised to make further jumps on the all-time scoring list. She currently is 12th overall with 1,150 points. Berry needs 16 points to pass Amber Shelton (2006-08) and move into the top 10 overall.
Ashley Capotosto scored a career best eight points in the recent loss to Toledo.
The Cougars' probably lineup will be senior Kiara Conner, junior Valerie Finnin, sophomore Tierney Austin, senior Courtney Kenner and Berry.
