A man has been charged with attempted residential burglary after he was allegedly caught trying to pry open a sliding glass door at the Longacre Ponds Apartment Complex.
According to police reports, Michael W. Coburn, 49, of Belleville, attempted the break-in Tuesday. But he was foiled when a neighbor spotted him and called police. The suspect tried to resist when confronted by officers and was shot with a Taser gun.
Coburn was charged Wednesday by St. Clair County State's Attorney Brendan Kelly. His bond was set by a judge at $200,000.
According to St. Clair County Circuit Clerk's Office records, Coburn was previously convicted of two counts of residential burglary in 2006.
