St. Clair County will receive $3.1 million in federal Community Development Block Grants to provide housing for low- and moderate-income families.
Illinois towns and counties will receive a total of more than $21 million in CDBG grants, according to an announcement made Thursday by U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Springfield, the Senate assistant majority leader.
In addition, St. Clair County will receive $610,031 for the HOME program to expand the supply of affordable housing for low- and very low-income families. HOME is the largest federal block grant to state and local governments to create affordable housing for low-income households. Each year the HOME program allocates approximately $2 billion among the states and hundreds of localities nationwide.
