Reds lowball Ludwick

Posted by Scott Wuerz on December 6, 2012

According to a report from the Cincinnati Enquirer, the Reds offer to former Cardinals outfielder Ryan Ludwick, 34, is about $3 million less than two-year proposals he's getting from other clubs.

Last year Ludwick, whose grandparents were from Cincinnati, proclaimed it to be a lifelong dream to play for the Reds. But we'll see how far that sentiment takes him when he has the chance to cash in elsewhere.

Remember, Ludwick was seriously injured early in his career when he was with the Rangers and it set back his career considerable. While he had two seasons with the Cardinals and Padres in which he earned more than $5 million a year, he has never had an opportunity to sign a long term contract. So he might be more motivated than other players his age to take the cash over a chance to win a ring.
