A Granite City man was arrested after driving his vehicle into a Granite City tavern Thursday night.

Madison County Sheriff's Department arrested 20-year-old Darryl D. Bennett after he drove his vehicle into the front door of Patty McD's Tavern at 5528 Maryville Road. Authorities reported that the crash caused significant damage and the suspect fled the scene. Police caught the man a short distance from the scene of the crash.

Bennett is being held at the Madison County Jail and a formal review of the accident is pending at the Madison County State's Attorney's Office.
