Metro-east Bully's Smokehouse closes its doors

A barbecue restaurant has closed its doors in Edwardsville. Bully's Smokehouse went out of business after six years in University Pointe II at 1035 Century Drive in Edwardsville. The small chain had another drive-through-only location called Bully's Express at 2615 N. Center St. in Maryville that ceased operations earlier this year after two years in business. At one time, another Bully's Smokehouse sit-down eatery was at 4204 W. Main St. in Belleville. However, you can still feed your need for Bully's at 1280 Columbia Center in Columbia. Ski equipment and clothing retailer Alpine Shop opened its first metro-east locale at 1855 W. U.S. 50 in O'Fallon, on the southeast corner of at Old Collinsville Road. Alpine Shop also sells kayaks, canoes and equipment and accessories for camping hiking and climbing. The store will soon add bikes and biking apparel. The chain has three other stores across the river in Kirkwood, Mo., Chesterfield, Mo. and Columbia, Mo. You can reach the new O'Fallon store at 726-6110.

A Freeburg pizzeria closed. Breadeaux Pizza at 441 Marketplace Drive in Freeburg shut its doors, but the Breadeaux Pizza at 105 S. Jefferson St. in Millstadt is still open for business. You can call them at 476-1700.

A new eatery on Belleville's Belt Line fries fish, chicken and gyros. You can find New York Fish Chicken Gyro at 5110 North Belt West or call 222-1700 for more information.

Remodeling just finished at a Collinsville Dairy Queen, now known as a Dairy Queen Grill & Chill, located at 1 Collinsport Drive, off Illinois 157 and Belt Line Road. Its number is 345-3633.

First County Bank is coming to Belleville. The bank, better known as FCB, purchased a former bank building in town. John Eichenlaub, of Johnson Properties in Fairview Heights, said FCB will reoccupy the building at 401 S. Illinois St. where other banks had been. FCB has metro-east banks located in Swansea, O'Fallon, New Baden, Collinsville, Maryville, Troy, Edwardsville and Highland.

A Troy roller skating rink reopened under new ownership. The Tri-Township Park District in Troy recently bought and reopened the rink at 284 Riggin Road formerly known as The Great Skate; it's now called Spin City Skate Center. Call 667-3218 for skate times, to book a party or more information.

Edison's Entertainment Complex in Edwardsville is forming new bowling and laser tag leagues that begin next month. The 30,000-square-foot venue opened for business in June at 2477 S. Illinois 157. Edison's has a 12-lane "boutique" bowling alley, state-of-the-art laser tag with a 3,500-square-foot laser tag arena, arcade, a lounge and restaurant under one roof. Call 307-9020 to find out more.

And finally, a new fueling station under construction in Pontoon Beach will soon offer truckers alternative fuel. Clean Energy Fuels is building the new natural gas station at 1310 E. Chain of Rocks Road. The fuel comes in compressed gaseous or liquefied natural gas forms, and the station will only be able to fill up larger trucks and vehicles that use these fuels.
