A construction worker is suing Prairie State Generating Co. in Marissa after losing a toe as a result of an accident during construction of a power plant near Lively Grove.
Brian Purdy filed a personal injury lawsuit against Prairie State Generating last month in St. Clair County court seeking in excess of $50,000.
According to court documents, Purdy, while working for Bechtel Construction Co., was in the process of removing a tack weld from a 2,500 pound piece of steel on Nov. 9, 2010, when it fell and amputated a toe on his right foot.
The suit alleges Prairie State had the duty to "provide and maintain reasonable safe equipment for plaintiff to work with" and "failed to make reasonable and periodic inspections to check for defective equipment."
Prairie State Generating Co. has not yet filed a response to the suit.
