Evidence of a job well done

Published: December 10, 2012

I enjoyed Glenn McCoy's cartoon depicting a retiring Judge Milton Wharton ... the caption "Good Job."

I worked at a school in Centreville for behaviorally disordered children. Judge Wharton often came down and gave inspirational talks on his upbringing -- overcoming adversity and making something of himself.

Of course, I also had to take these same children into his courtroom for various violations. He was always very firm, fair and consistent and had the best interest of the child at heart. I saw many of the kids change because of Wharton's influence. The kids would often tell each other, "You don't want to go in front to Wharton, so behave." Good job indeed.
