Fire Department frees man stuck in elevator at courthouse

Published: December 11, 2012

The Belleville Fire Department Tuesday morning freed a man trapped between floors in an elevator at the St. Clair County Building.

According to Assistant Chief Bailiff Forrest Bevineau, the elevator got stuck between the third and fourth floors at shortly before 9 a.m.

"The fire department had to move the elevator to a floor to get the door opened and then pry the door open to get the guy out," Bevineau said. "He was probably stuck in there for 10 or 15 minutes. But, fortunately, there were no injuries."

Bevineau said he couldn't recall any similar problems with the elevators in recent memory.
