In man-on-the-street interviews conducted by the BND Tuesday, concealed carry drew a wide variety of viewpoints:
"I support it because I believe every American has the right to protect himself, especially in times like these."
Mike Barron, 49, of Shiloh
Owner of Quizno's in Belleville
"I think overall I support it. I believe in the Constitution. I think people should have the right to protect themselves. If people want to hurt someone, they are going to hurt someone."
Josh McCoy, 28, of Belleville
"I don't support concealed carry. I think too many times somebody may make a mistake."
Pamela Slaughenhaupt, 59, of Swansea
"I support it, being in the business of handguns. Every American has the right to carry a firearm. Every other state has concealed carry, except Illinois."
Chris Parciak, 42, of Belleville
Manager of Curt Smith's Outdoors
"I support it, because of the way crime and the lack of safety is nowadays as long as the person is trained and within the legal limits."
Judy Saak, 66, of Swansea
"I don't think it's a good idea to have concealed carry. Someone can take a situation more seriously than they should and hurt somebody."
Jordan Wooten, 18, of Belleville
Senior at Belleville East High School
