The Madison County Sheriff's Department and State's Attorney's Office have opened a prescription drug drop box to help people get unwanted pills out of their medicine cabinets.
While prescription drug collections had been offer on occasion in the past, this station is permanent and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for all citizens of Madison County.
The box is located in the front lobby entrance of the Madison County Sheriff's Office, 405 Randle St. Edwardsville.
The program is completely anonymous. People who drop off unwanted prescription or over the counter medication into the box will not be questioned by law enforcement personnel. All material collected will be destroyed by way of incineration.
Illicit drugs such as marijuana, heroin, intra-venous solutions, injectables, and syringes will not be accepted in the drop box.
Funding for this program was made possible through the Madison County Sheriff's Office Drug Forfeiture Fund.
