After suffering a stunning upset Friday against Mount Vernon, the Cahokia Comanches return to action at 4 p.m. Saturday against Evansville (Ind.) Bosse at the Midwest Showdown Shootout at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Mo.
Before Friday's 58-54 loss, Cahokia has had only two fairly close games. The Comanches defeated Lincoln 56-51 in the season opener and survived 62-56 in a road game against Carbondale.
The Comanches drew the No. 1 seed at the upcoming Centralia Holiday Tournament and are led by dynamic senior guard Keenan Minor, who is averaging 21.3 points per game with 23 3-pointers.
Also in double-figure scoring are 6-foot-6 senior Vincent Jackson (14.5 ppg) and 6-7 junior Darius Austin (10.5 ppg). Junior guard Carleton Rivers adds another nine points per game.
Bosse has three starters back from a 23-5 team and is considered one of the top 3A teams in Indiana. Bosse's top player is highly touted junior Division I prospect JaQuan Lyle. Lyle had 27 points and 10 rebounds in a recent 65-64 loss to Jeffersonville.
East St. Louis (3-4) will battle Chicago De La Salle in a 7 p.m. game.
Playing well under new coach Tony Young, the Flyers have several scoring threats led by Johnny McCray (11.5 ppg) and Deshawn Munson (11.2 ppg) along with Daniel Williams (8.5 ppg).
De La Salle won its first five games and is led by 6-foot-3 Minnesota guard recruit Alvin Ellis (16.4 ppg). Other standouts include 6-7 senior Justin Earls, senior guard Marcus White and 6-5 sophomore Brandon Hutton.
There are a total of eight game scheduled at Lindenwood beginning at 10 a.m. The shootout features some of the top schools from the St. Louis region and Midwest.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students.
