Lots of interest generated in Collinsville Unit 10 School Board positions

Published: December 16, 2012

— Some familiar faces may be running with the incumbents for the Collinsville Unit 10 School Board next spring.

Longtime school board members Theresa Billy, Gary Peccola and Gary Kusmierczak are each up for re-election, and have picked up petitions to run again in the April 9 election.

Others who have picked up petitions include former city councilman Don Koonce and former board member Jim Achenbach, as well as previous candidate Adam Latham.

Koonce, who served four years on the City Council, last ran for office when he challenged the late Stan Schaeffer for mayor in 2003. Latham ran unsuccessfully for the board in 2009 and 2011

Achenbach challenged current Mayor John Miller in 2011, and previously served eight years on the school board in various positions, including board president.

While petitions can be picked up at the district office or found on the district website, they must be filed at the administration office on Clay Street beginning Monday and no later than 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 26. The offices will be closed on Dec. 24-25.

Candidates' names will appear on the ballot in the order their papers were received by the secretary. There are three seats available for four-year terms expiring in April 2017.

Current board members Ron Throm, Wayne White, Jane Soehlke and Gary Clark are not up for re-election.
