East St. Louis man to serve more than five years in prison for role in shooting

A 20-year-old East St. Louis man was sentenced in federal court Friday to more than five years in prison for his role in a shooting at a housing complex last year.

Ceontae D. Matthews was sentenced to five years and three months in prison and three years probation following his guilty plea on Aug. 31 to an indictment charging him with possession of a firearm by a user of controlled substances.

According to prosecutors, the charges relate to an incident that occurred on Sept. 5, 2011, in the Roosevelt Housing Complex in East St. Louis.

The case was prosecuted by U.S. Attorney Stephen R. Wigginton.
