Centreville Trustee Carolyn Edley has died, according to Centreville Township Supervisor Curtis McCall. At 8:45 p.m., McCall said he had just heard the sad news from Centreville Mayor Marius Jackson and was on his way to Edley's house.

McCall said the coroner told him the cause of death appears to be a heart attack. McCall said the 78-year-old Edley taught in East St. Louis School District 189 for more than 30 years.

"She was the Centreville clerk for eight years under former Centreville Mayor Frankie Seaberry. She served on the East St. Louis Park District Board for over 20 years. She's been on the Centreville Township board for four years. Basically, she dedicated her life to public service'" McCall said. Medley was the current president of the park district board.

"It's a sad day for the city of Centreville and Centreville Township," McCall said.

Edley also was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority for more than 30 years, McCall said. He add that Edley had a smile that lit up a room and it is one of the things that he said he will miss very much.

"She was Miss Personality Plus. She will be greatly missed," McCall said.

Edley's daughter, Carolyn Edley-Dodd is principal of Miles Davis School in District 189.

Dr. Katie Wright, a 62-year member of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority said Edley loved being a Delta.

"She was an excellent educator and community leader. She was a proud mother and grandmother. she was an elegant woman. She had a quiet elegance about herself. And she loved her granddaughter," Wright said.
