O'Fallon grad Roosevelt Jones named A-10 Player of the Week after helping Butler knock off Indiana

Published: December 19, 2012

Butler University sophomore Roosevelt Jones, an O'Fallon High School graduate who helped lead the Bulldogs to a victory over previously unbeaten and No. 1 ranked Indiana, has been named Atlantic 10 Conference Player of the Week.

Jones, a 6-foot-4 forward, was called "the best player on the floor" by Butler coach Brad Stevens after the Bulldogs' 88-86 overtime victory over Indiana on Saturday in Indianapolis.

Jones recorded his fifth career double-double with 16 points and a game-high 12 rebounds against the Hoosiers. He was headed for a rare triple-double with a game-high seven assists before fouling out with two minutes remaining in regulation.

The second-year Butler player hit six of 10 shots from the field and four of six from the free-throw line, and he added a pair of blocked shots in 29 minutes of action.

The 12 rebounds and two blocked shots matched his previous career-high, while the seven assists were a new career-high.

The victory was Butler's first in five tries all-time against a No.1 ranked team. Butler will return to action at home against state foe Evansville at 1 p.m. Saturday.
