Belleville Police found a retired police dog who escaped Thursday evening and stayed on the run until about 9:30 a.m. Friday.
High winds blew over part of the 6-foot-tall fence that served as his pen, allowing the dog to escape.
According to Capt. Don Sax, the 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, named Trauma, was not wearing a collar at the time he escaped.
The dog escaped about 5:45 p.m. Thursday in the area of Centreville Avenue and South Belt West.
Police issued a robocall alert to Belleville residents and warned that if people saw the dog, they should not approach it but rather call police. Officers were worried he could be aggressive because of his training.
Trauma retired from police department work in November because of health issues.
