What was Collinsville trying to hide?

Published: December 23, 2012

Free speech won a round last week when U.S. District Judge Michael Reagan turned down Collinsville's ridiculous request to take down a YouTube video critical of the city.

The video was made by Terrance Huff, a filmmaker who is suing the city after he was stopped on Interstate 55-70 and his car searched for drugs. He was not arrested or ticketed.

Collinsville wanted to keep the public from seeing parts of the video deposition by officer Michael Reichert. But the deposition is part of a public court proceeding and should be accessible to the public, whether at the courthouse or on YouTube.

City officials wasted tax dollars to keep people from seeing that deposition, but by going to court and making a big deal of the video they have pretty much ensured that a lot more people will now take look.
