Snow pushes Carbondale Tournament back one day; Freeburg and Sesser-Valier schedule also altered

Published: December 26, 2012

Heavy snowfall in Southern Illinois has delayed the start of the Carbondale Holiday Tournament for one day. Edwardsville and Madison are the two metro-east teams participating.

Instead of starting Thursday, the tournament will begin Friday at SIU Arena.

Game 1: St. Mary's vs. Cairo, 9 a.m.

Game 2: Trico vs. Carnahan, 4 p.m.

Game 3: Memphis U. High vs. Collins Academy, 2:30 p.m.

Game 4: Madison vs. Carterville, 10:30 a.m.

Game 5: Edwardsville vs. Bartlett (Tenn.), 1 p.m.

Game 6: Marion vs. Arlington, 6 p.m.

Game 7: Carbondale vs. East Peoria, 7:30 p.m.

Game 8: Manassas vs. Hazelwood West, 9 p.m.

Subsequent games will be held Saturday and Sunday at Carbondale High School and SIU Arena. The championship game is at 8 p.m. Sunday at SIU Arena.

* Also because of snow, the Murphysboro-Lebanon game at the Freeburg-Columbia Holiday Tournament originally scheduled for 4:30 p.m. Wednesday has been rescheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Revised schedule for Thursday:

Murphysboro vs. Lebanon, 10:30 am.

Valmeyer vs. Waterloo, noon

Dupo vs. Civic Memorial, 1:30 p.m.

Hillsboro vs. Murphysboro, 3 p.m.

Freeburg vs. Marquette, 4:30 p.m.

Columbia vs. Valmeyer, 6 p.m.

Lebanon vs. Hillsboro, 7:30 p.m.

* The bad weather forced school officials to postpone the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament on Wednesday and move the start of the tourney to Thursday. The tourney's final day will now be Monday.
