A 24-year-old Waterloo man was charged Wednesday with aggravated domestic battery and reckless discharge of a firearm, both felonies.
Matthew E. Fauke of the 3000 block of Floraville Road was charged in connection with an incident that occurred on Sunday involving his 21-year-old ex-girlfriend.
St. Clair County Sheriff's Department deputies responded to St. Elizabeth's Hospital on Sunday in reference to a female being held against her will and battered by an ex-boyfriend. The victim had numerous injuries, bite marks and her entire face was swollen, according to police.
The victim told police she agreed to talk to her ex-boyfriend identified as Fauke at his residence. During their conversation, Fauke allegedly became angry with her and began beating her in the face with her cellphone and his fists, police said. The beating lasted more than an hour.
In addition, Fauke retrieved a pistol and shot through the window, according to police. He told her he was going to kill her then himself.
The victim eventually talked Fauke into bringing her to her parent's house near Millstadt. The victim's parents immediately took her to the hospital. Due to the serious nature of her injuries, she was then transported to a St. Louis area hospital.
Fauke was located at his residence and arrested by deputies. He was being held in the St. Clair County Jail on $100,000 bail. If convicted, Fauke faces three to seven years in prison on the battery charge and one to three years in prison on the weapons charge.
