Now's your chance to claim property, money being held by the state

Published: December 28, 2012

Staff from the Illinois Treasurer's Office will host an I-Cash event from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, Jan. 4 at O'Fallon City Hall.

The I-Cash program is a service by the State Treasurer's Office that allows Illinois residents to claim any property or money that is being held by the Treasurer's Office. In Illinois, banks and businesses are required to turn over unclaimed property to the treasurer if they are unable to locate the rightful owner after five years, including: abandoned savings and checking accounts or safe deposit boxes; stocks, bonds and mutual funds; paid life insurance policies; items mistakenly mailed to a former address or returned; or unclaimed property or assets of a deceased relative of whom you are the heir.

Claim forms and instructions on how to fill them out will be available at the event.
