Make City Council videos easy to access

Published: December 30, 2012

Belleville's plan to televise City Council meetings is on hold while some costly fiber option issues are worked out. In the meantime, there's no good excuse for not making an Internet feed of the meetings easier for residents to access.

Robert White, a candidate for alderman, is recording the meetings and posting them on YouTube. Mayor Mark Eckert said the city's Website can't refer to the videos because the city would be responsible for the quality and legitimacy.

But really, how difficult would that be to determine? All someone at City Hall would have to do is view the recording. Or just post a disclaimer.

If Eckert wanted to make this information easily available to residents he would do so immediately. It's disappointing that he hasn't.

Interested residents can still view the meetings; they are posted at youtube.com/bellevilleweb.
