The movie theater at Scott Air Force Base screened its last film.

According to the base's Exchange Office, upgrading the theater with modern digital equipment would have been too expensive at approximately $120,000, so the last movie was shown at the theater Dec. 30.

Belleville cafe The Abbey started the new year at its new location.

The new coffee shop opened to customers at 5801 W. Main St. Construction got underway earlier last year.

The business initially opened in 2001 down the street in The Arcades Centre at 6500 W. Main St. Aside from coffee, The Abbey serves a menu of sandwiches, salads and desserts.

Chick-fil-A will open its doors at 6 a.m. Thursday in Belleville. Customers are invited to camp outside the new chicken sandwich restaurant at 2532 Green Mount Commons on Carlyle Avenue for 24 hours before the grand opening for a chance to win a year's worth of free food.

Sliders are coming to Cahokia. White Castle opens Sunday at 1620 Camp Jackson Road, serving the signature diminutive burgers, crinkle-cut fries and more. The new restaurant fills a spot formerly occupied by True Value Hardware, which relocated across the street.

Dairy Queen reopened in Belleville. Now known as Belleville DQ Grill & Chill, the remodeled ice cream eatery at 1776 Lebanon Ave. includes a new Orange Julius inside. The number there is 277-9983.

A Belleville electrical supply business relocated. Cape Electrical Supply, long known as Belleville Electrical Supply, until about 13 years ago, moved from 12 Lebanon Ave. to a new store in Caseyville. You can now find them at 8124 Bunkhum Road. The phone number remains the same at 234-4844.

The former Bassett Furniture store in Fairview Heights will soon house a privately held for-profit thrift store. Savers Inc. will soon open the new store at 10899 Lincoln Trail. Stay tuned.
