James and Marjorie Hines celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary on December 10th. James and the former Marjorie Banning-Raab were married on December 10th. 1977, by Msgr. Carl Scherrer at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Belleville, II. Katherine Hines, daughter of the groom was Maid of Honor, and James Raab, son of the bride was best man. “Jima’s Love Theme”, as well as the “Procession of Joy” was created and composed for the couple by Jerry Keirl, who also served as the organist.

James and Marjorie attended St. Albert’s, now Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Fairview Heights, where James served as Lector and Marjorie as a Eucharistic Minister. They were active in the Renew Program, and James is a member of the Knights of Columbus.

James received his Master’s Degree in Education from Washington University, St. Louis, Mo. 1971, a Master of Arts Degree in Education in Management, 1986, from Webster University, as well as an advanced certificate in Education from the University of Illinois, He also has the title of RSBA. He served as President of the Illinois Association of Community College Business Administrator, 1980. Over the years, James served as a school teacher, Superintendent of Schools, and Vice-President of Administration at several Community Colleges. He retired from BAC (now SWIC), as a Vice-President of Administration, 1986, where he was also chosen as Outstanding Administrator, in 1982.

Marjorie is a retired R.N., having graduated from St. John’s School of Nursing, Springfield, IL., in 1959, and received a B.S. degree from the College of St. Francis, 1978. She worked at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital for a number of years in the newborn nursery. She conducted childbirth classes on LaMaze for several years. Eventually, she served as a Social Services Director, Director of Nursing in a care facility, and as a licensed Nursing Home Administrator.

The couple have eight children: Dennis, (Jean) Hines, St. Louis, Mo., Ron, (Eileen) Hines, Fairview Heights, II., Gary, (Sompit) Hines, Granite City, II., Katherine Hines, E. Africa , James Raab, Fairview Heights, Angela, (Scott) McCracken, Labadie, Mo., and Jeffrey, (Dawn) Raab, Meza, Arizona.

Another son, Rick Hines, (Carol) Portland, Oregon, is deceased. They also have 13 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. James and Marjorie currently reside in Fairview Heights, IL.
