A student was the victim of an armed robbery Wednesday evening while walking on a Southern Illinois University Edwardsville bike path, according to campus police.
A female student told police she was robbed while walking about 7 p.m. Wednesday on the path near Illinois 157.
A male suspect approached the victim from behind and placed a sharp object against her back. The suspect fled the scene with a small amount of cash and the victim's ring, according to campus police.
The suspect is described as a male of medium build between 5-feet-11-inches and 6-feet-1-inch tall wearing a hooded sweatshirt.
SIUE Director of University Marketing and Communications Doug McIlhagga said campus police do not believe there is imminent danger to anyone on campus.
The robbery happened on a bike path near The Gardens at SIUE, a 35-acre public botanical garden on the campus near Illinois 157.
McIlhagga said this is the fourth armed robbery on campus since 2000.
