Belleville blotter: 17-year-old girl charged after police chase

Published: January 11, 2013

The following report appeared in the most recently released crime blotter by the Belleville Police Department:

THURSDAY

Brenda M. Everts, 17, of 208 N. 44th St. in Belleville, was charged Thursday in connection with aggravated fleeing, a class 4 felony. Her bail was set at $75,000.

Officers had responded at 12:25 a.m. Thursday morning to a report of a possible intoxicated juvenile driving recklessly in the parking lot. An officer located the vehicle leaving the lot. The officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop but the vehicle refused to stop, ignoring several traffic control devices and driving recklessly attempting to elude officers. The pursuit continued into East St. Louis and was terminated as the vehicle drove north on Interstate 255.

Readers are reminded that an arrest or charge does not constitute a finding of guilt. Only a court of law can make that determination. For more police blotter news, read tomorrow's print edition of the Belleville News-Democrat and return to bnd.com.
