The identity of a man who died early Monday in a house fire in South Roxana has been confirmed.

Amil D. Goskie, 78, died from smoke inhalation, said Madison County Coroner Stephen P. Nonn after an autopsy was performed Tuesday.

Goskie was found at the rear of his home at 205 Stephenson that was on fire about 4:35 a.m. Monday at 205 Stephenson Ave. by South Roxana Police and fire departments. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"Preliminary autopsy results indicate the victim died as a result of smoke inhalation, pending toxicology testing," Nonn stated.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office.

Funeral arrangements for Goskie were pending midday Tuesday.
