No tankers for Scott? It's no surprise

Published: January 16, 2013

The removal of Scott Air Force Base from consideration for the new tanker refueling base isn't a surprise as the Air Force is starting to get all its eggs out of one basket. Hopefully it will cause the Russian and Chinese problems in the changes to their target listing.

Having a senator who is only pro-military when it comes to Scott Air Force Base is known to the people at the Pentagon and the loss should not be a surprise.

Our new body in Congress will be a joke on the Armed Services Committee. His job there will be: speak when spoken to. Being a protege of Governor Blagojevich will be of no benefit to him. People know he was a distant choice for the job and only got it because of the St. Clair County cabal.

Another rumor to watch is the Veterans Administration Medical Clinic on West Main Street in Belleville trying to move into the partially empty hospital at Scott Air Force Base. That would create interesting security problems there, but would be of political capital to the county chairman and his entourage. It would be another feather in his hat like MidAmerica International Airport.
