Don't bite the hand that pays the city's bills

Published: January 17, 2013

I would like to comment about the letter by Daniel Boyt of Fairview Heights regarding brick and mortar stores.

Everyone has a right to shop wherever he wants. However, if you happen to live in Fairview Heights, you might want to keep in mind that the success of those businesses is why Fairview Heights does not levy a city property tax on its residents. Check your county property tax bill and you will see what I mean.

Now I'm not suggesting that if you have an issue with a particular store you should ignore it. What I am saying is to make a public condemnation of all brick and mortar stores seems to be self-defeating if you own property in Fairview Heights.
