Grizzlies re-sign McClendon, Myers

Published: January 21, 2013

— The Gateway Grizzlies and manager Phil Warren have re-signed infielder Chris McClendon and outfielder Jon Myers for the 2013 season.

"We're excited to bring back both Chris and Jon for 2013," Warren said. "Just like last season, both guys will be a key part of what we do in the coming season."

The 2013 campaign marks McClendon's fifth season in the Frontier League, with three of them coming at Gateway. McClendon is a .297 career hitter with 16 home runs, 56 doubles and 109 RBI in 237 games. The Lufkin, Texas, native has stolen 47 career bases. McClendon batted .288 last season with eight home runs and 49 RBI in 84 games.

"Chris has proved that he is one of the best overall players in the league based on his production each season," Warren remarked. "He goes hard every night, plays great defense and is also a great leader. We still haven't seen him at his best."

Myers, a St. Peters, Mo. native, returns for his second season with the Grizzlies in 2013. Despite getting off to a slow start, the former Saint Louis University star hit .257 with 20 home runs and 57 RBI in 2012. Myers also collected 24 doubles while playing in 95 games, which tied a franchise record.

"We're excited to see what Jon can do when he gets off to a good start," Warren said. "He got off to a slow start, but picked it up in the second half and was a key part of our stretch run. There might not have been a better hitter in the league during the second half than Jon Myers. He was that good down the stretch."

The Grizzlies 2013 home opener is May 21 when they take on the Joliet Slammers in the friendly confines of GCS Ballpark. Season and group tickets are on sale now. For more information call 618-337-3000.
