State Rep. Dan Beiser plans to introduce a proposal next week to the Illinois General Assembly which would name the road linking Interstate 64 to the new Mississippi River bridge after retired U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello.
The stretch of highway would be called the Jerry F. Costello Expressway if the legislation passes.
Costello, a Belleville resident originally from East St. Louis, retired earlier this month after serving in Congress since 1988.
Meanwhile, the Missouri state legislature is expected to soon consider a plan to rename the new bridge over the Mississippi River after St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Fame slugger Stan Musial who died Saturday at 92 years old.
Illinois legislators would also have to approve the re-naming of the bridge for Musial because the new span over the Mississippi is a joint project between the states.
