MoDot delays downtown highway shutdown

Published: January 23, 2013

The Missouri Department of Transportation has changed the dates it planned to close Interstate 64 for bridge removal in downtown St. Louis.

Originally planned for this weekend, the bridge removal and closure of I-64, also known as Highway 40, has been delayed until Feb. 1-4. According to the department, the delay is required because road crews would not be able to complete necessary striping for the project due to projected precipitation over the weekend.

With the closure rescheduled for 8 p.m. Feb. 1, the work to narrow and shift lanes on the interstate has also moved. Drivers through St. Louis can now expect shifted and narrowed lanes in both directions of I-64 starting before the morning commute on Feb. 4.

The Taylor and Newstead bridges will remain closed over the interstate.

More information on upcoming work will be released when it becomes available, and will be shared on the project webpage at: tinyurl.com/towergve2013.
