Nyjer Morgan signs to play out west... Way out west

Former Brewers loudmouth Nyjer Morgan has finally signed a contract to play baseball in 2013.

He'll be patrolling the outfield in the coming year for the Yokohama Dena BayStars of the Japanese Central League. I wonder, are their playoff games shown on television in St. Louis?

Morgan was released by the Brewers at the end of the 2012 season. I'm guessing it was at least in part because his .239 batting average with three home runs wasn't quite enough production to offset the baggage his irritating personality brought into the clubhouse.

Milwaukee players were reportedly embarrassed and angered in 2011 when he showboated against the Central Division rival Cardinals, capping it off by bragging that Milwaukee was going to the playoffs while St. Louis, apparently, was not.

The Redbirds rallied to win the wild card playoff berth -- then they won a contentious National League Championship Series in Milwaukee to send Morgan and the Brewers home. Of course, the Cardinals went on to win the World Series, the 11th in franchise history.
