BELLEVILLE — Students arrived at Belleville East Friday morning to find a traffic jam in front that blocked some of them from getting to school on time.
According to Belleville Police Department Capt. Don Sax, there was a four-car accident about 8 a.m. on Illinois 161 on the back side of the campus. It was unclear if there were any injuries due to the crash.
"The accident was on 161 near the Domino's Pizza," Sax said. "Several police cars and fire trucks responded and had the road blocked as kids were arriving at the high school."
District 201 Superintendent Jeff Dosier said the occupants of the vehicles do not attend Belleville East.
"Some students were late to school because of the traffic backup," Dosier said. "But, besides that, school wasn't affected."
