A well-known businessman in Marissa was killed in a car crash over the weekend.
Jeffrey B. Riess, 50, owner of Riess Ford Sales Inc. in Marissa, died as a result of a one-vehicle crash Saturday night, according to Illinois State Police.
Riess was driving a 2012 Ford Escape with dealer plates eastbound on Illinois 15 just west of Green Mount Road at 5:58 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Riess was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic, according to police, when he lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road, striking a ditch.
The vehicle flipped several times, coming to rest on the driver's side, police said.
Riess was transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:06 p.m. Saturday.
Visitation for Riess will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah. Funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation Thursday at the church.
