A well-known businessman in Marissa was killed in a car crash over the weekend.
Jeffrey B. Riess, 50, owner of Riess Ford Sales Inc. in Marissa, died as a result of a one-vehicle crash Saturday night, according to Illinois State Police.
Riess was driving a 2012 Ford Escape with dealer plates eastbound on Illinois 15 just west of Green Mount Road at 5:58 p.m. Saturday, police said.
Riess was allegedly traveling at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic, according to police, when he lost control of his vehicle and veered off the road, striking a ditch.
The vehicle flipped several times, coming to rest on the driver's side, police said.
Riess was transported to St. Elizabeth's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:06 p.m. Saturday.
Visitation for Riess will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Moll Funeral Home in Mascoutah and from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. John United Church of Christ in Mascoutah. Funeral services will be held immediately following the visitation Thursday at the church.
Riess will be buried at Mascoutah City Cemetery.
