The Collinsville Police Department is looking for a 28-year-old Cahokia man in connection with a shooting that occurred during a domestic dispute Sunday morning at an apartment complex on Bellevue Drive.
Maj. Tom Coppotelli said investigators are still trying to determine what transpired at the scene and need to question Colby M. Adams.
Collinsville police responded to a 911 call Sunday morning about a male subject attempting to kick in a door at 55 Bellevue Apt. 3. When officers arrived, the female resident told the officers she had been involved in a domestic dispute with her boyfriend in Brooklyn earlier that same day, according to Coppotelli.
He later came back to their apartment in Collinsville and found the female there with her ex-boyfriend identified by police as Adams. An altercation occurred and the boyfriend left the area.
Coppotelli said police initially checked the area and found both male subjects had left.
Approximately an hour later, police received a call from an area hospital about a subject being treated for a bullet wound to his leg. The subject stated he had been shot in Collinsville.
Coppotelli said officers determined the subject was the boyfriend and had been shot at the apartment. Officers then responded back to the scene and began interviewing the female again.
During a search warrant, police recovered a firearm that was thought to have been used in the shooting along with other evidence.
Anyone with information of Adams whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Collinsville police at 344-2131. Adams has not been charged with a crime and is only wanted for questioning at this time.
